Yuchai Delivers China's First Ammonia Dual-Fuel Engine

Recently, Yuchai Marine Power successfully delivered China's first 6X52DF-A-1.0 ammonia dual-fuel low-speed engine at its factory in Zhuhai. This is another significant milestone for Yuchai's deep engagement in the green and low-carbon marine power sector. 

The ammonia dual-fuel engines delivered this time will be applied to the 25,000 cubic meter series of LPG/liquid ammonia transport ships. This engine adopts the high-pressure liquid ammonia direct injection technology. It can achieve the same load response capability and dynamic performance as the equivalent diesel engine in both ammonia mode and diesel mode. The main engine is equipped with the HPSCR system, which can meet the low-carbon emission requirements while also meeting the international maritime organization's Tier III emission standards. In July 2025, Yuchai Ship Power jointly initiated the construction of an ammonia fuel supply station, providing a solid guarantee for the bench testing and production delivery of ammonia dual-fuel engines. During the factory test phase, from the initial switch to the ammonia mode, the ammonia load calibration, to the emission tests, and finally to the submission of the factory test results, the entire process took only three days. During this period, the main engine achieved zero leakage of liquid ammonia and maintained stable performance. Yuchai Ship Power thus set the fastest record for the delivery of the ammonia mode.

From natural gas to methanol and then to ammonia, Yuchai has continuously made breakthroughs in the field of clean fuel marine low-speed engines, and has formed a complete product matrix covering mainstream alternative fuels. The successful delivery of China's first 6X52DF-A-1.0 ammonia dual-fuel low-speed engine is not only an important milestone in Yuchai's own development, but also marks that China's marine power equipment has occupied an important position in the global zero-carbon shipping competition, injecting strong "Chinese power" into the global shipping industry's green transformation.
