In the mid-1930s, the truck's exterior design and basic technical structure design changed in some important parts. The LV8 and LV9 series trucks are an important two step move for Volvo towards the mainstream truck manufacturers.
Vehicle quality in the distribution between the axle is a very delicate question. The most critical step in improving the axle load distribution before and after the bridge is achieved by moving the position of the engine under the cab.

For a variety of reasons, this principle did not win many supporters until the mid-1950s.

The engine, which is usually located behind the front axle, is advanced and placed directly over the front axle, thereby greatly improving the axle load.
The result was the production of the LV8 and LV9 series trucks, which became the standard truck of the late 1930s in Sweden.
Compared to previous Volvo trucks (and other truck models), LV8 and LV9 have a more reasonable curve aerodynamic shape (compared with the previous truck models, the latter looks horizontal and vertical, square head side of the brain).
Prior to the LV8 / LV9, many Volvo heavy trucks were delivered without a cab. By the mid-1930s, the standard was fitted with steel cabs (usually with wooden frames and canvas roofs), with a reasonable aerodynamic profile, which significantly improved comfort and ergonomics.
At this time, an important step to improve the installation of more and more popular heater heater for the driver to provide a more comfortable working environment.
In the past, each individual truck model was very different from other truck models. Starting with the LV8 / LV9, a separate family of trucks has emerged, ranging from light distribution to long haul transport or building transportation, to meet different transport needs.
This is achieved by applying different engines (including side and overhead valves, Hesselman engines, and World War II gas engines) with various types of suspensions, axles, wheels and tires, enabling the LV8 / LV9 competent in a wide range of tasks.
The LV8 / LV9 were primarily welcomed as a truck for the market and played a role as an efficient light-duty medium-sized bus during its longer production period.
